Letter, 1861 Jan. 11, from E. Lewis, Montgomery, Republic of Ala., to Mr. Kerr, Ky., concerning the celebration in Montgomery of Alabama's secession from the U.S. to form the Republic of Ala. Lewis discusses the plan Alabamians had to take over forts in Ala. and Fla., fears that war will result from secession, William Lowndes Yancey's role as a secessionist, and the Shakespearean plays recently presented at the theater in Montgomery by the Walacks, as well as cooking recipes and the fact that Lewis prefers Ky. to Ala.
